Longtime legislator Ken Cheuvront, a Democrat vying for justice of the peace in Phoenix, said he’s not running for office because of the money.

Cheuvront, who served in the state Legislature for 16 years and now works in the private sector, said he will take a pay cut if elected.

Property tax override returning to Apache County ballots

After seven years, a property tax override will again come before voters in Apache County on November 7.

The ballot measure will request that voters approve an additional $2 million in property taxes annually beginning in fiscal year 2019-2020 and every year after that for the next six years. An additional $200,000 to cover inflationary growth will be included with the $2 million for six years, according to the language that will be included on the ballot.

Arizona Western College has second highest overall tax rate in the state

In their June 2018 newsletter, the Arizona Tax Research Association found Arizona Western College has the third highest primary property tax rate of the 12 community college districts in the state at $2.22 of $100 of net assessed value. The highest is Graham County/Eastern, at $3.33 of $100 of net assessed value. Cochise County has a primary rate of $2.40 of $100 of net assessed value.
